He has recently retired from teaching to concentrate on his own work. He sees himself as a realist painter and prefers to work directly from observation. He is most at home working outdoors but has a studio in West Sussex with printmaking facilities where he also undertakes a variety of work to commission. At the 2012 RBA exhibition he was the winner of The Artist̛̛ Prize and the March 2013 issue of the Artist magazine features an extended article by Julian Halsby RBA with illustrations and information about working methods. Chris was elected to membership of the RBA in 2013.
