DETAIL: Murison was born in Bath, Somerset and attended the West of England College of Art in Bristol, where he settled. He taught at Queen Elizabeth’s Hospital School, Bristol (The Blue Coat School) for nine years and was head of Foundation Studies at Bristol Polytechnic (now the University of the West of England) until 1987. He became a Member of the Royal West of England Academy in 1979, being appointed Director of the Academy’s New Gallery in 2002. He had a long series of solo shows, including Bear Lane Gallery, Oxford from 1963; Oxford Gallery from 1970; and Park Street Gallery, Bristol from 1978. Later ones include Albany Gallery, Cardiff in 1991 and Toll House Gallery, Cleveden in 2001. He travelled widely in Europe, the Caribbean, Africa and the Far East and is well known for his paintings which reflect his passion for the rainforest and a long standing love affair with palm trees. He exhibited regularly since the 1960s and achieved early recognition with a series of abstract paintings which were exhibited in successful one-man shows in Bristol, London and Oxford, He also exhibited in Madeira, Germany, Cardiff, Clevedon, Tresco, France, Harrogate, Honiton and Sevenoaks His works are in the collections of many corporate bodies, education authorities, banks and private sector companies including the Bank of America, London & Amsterdam; Oxford University; the Museum of Modern Art, Skopje; Bath University; Nuffield Trust Paintings for Hospitals; Cardiff Music College; Merchant Bank of Scotland; Contemporary Art Society of Wales; Wills Tobacco Company; Government of Portugal; Trumans Breweries; Nara Machinery Limited, Tokyo; Dong Kook Limited, Korea; the Royal West of England Academy and Bradford and Bingley Building Society.
