Alexander was born in 1953, having studied at Maidstone College of Art as well as a postgraduate course at London University. Matthews paintings style is attributed to the early influence of his father Chris Alexander (1926-1982) himself a noted and well-regarded artist and lecturer as well as that of Alfred Sisley.
His work shows a fascination of light and shadow, the sun and cloud formations demonstrating his ability in executing landscapes, which so rightly have gained him the reputation of being one of the UKs leading New Impressionist painters.
Matthew was elected to the The Royal Society of British Artists and has shown at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. His work makes up part of many private and Corporate collections including Cunard and MBNA Bank.
