DETAIL: A wonderful thick impasto painting by French impressionist Marcel St-John. Saint-Jean learnt to paint as a teenager by his uncle Émile Didier. Marcel Saint-Jean left a considerable atelier of work, approaching the theme of the landscape in all its variety, the one he knew in his past childhood in the Lyonnais mountains with his grandparents, in the urban landscape of Lyon & from the quays of Saône to the slopes of Fourvière and the Saint-Jean district. Everything resounds, culminates in an exacerbated chromatic range, expressionist where the intensity of the light and colourful accents. Marcel Saint-Jean is present in the Paul Dini Museums of Villefranche and of The Museum Of Fine Arts in Lyon. He benefitted from a retrospective at the Maison Ravier in Morestel France in 2000.
