DETAIL: Harry Holland was born in Glasgow in 1941 and trained at St. Martin’s School of Art, London. He has been living and working in Cardiff since 1973. Now established as one of Britain’s leading figurative artists, he has exhibited with great critical and commercial success in Cardiff, London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Toronto, Paris, Rome, Barcelona, Brussels, Hamburg, Cologne, Stockholm, Athens and Vienna, becoming one of Wales’ most internationally renowned and successful artists. He has ignored prevailing trends and fashions, while continuing to develop his own themes and style. His intellectual and painterly approach is deeply rooted in the traditions of art, often including mythological references in both his figurative and still life works. Beautifully painted, his serene, ambiguous and intriguing paintings repay long contemplation. His work is held in the collections of The Tate, London; Metropolitan Museum, New York; National Portrait Gallery, Canada; European Parliament Collection; National Museum and Galleries of Wales; British Museum, London; Belgian National Collection; Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge; Newport Museum and Art Gallery; Glynn Vivian Art Gallery, Swansea; Contemporary Art Society; Arts Council of Wales; Contemporary Art Society for Wales; BBC Wales; Heineken Collection, Amsterdam; Gartmore Investment Management Ltd; Private Collections worldwide.
