DETAIL: A very strong original oil painting by the well listed British painter Cecil C.P. Lawson with a lovely strength and depth perspective to the painting. The work depicts an alpine scene possibly completed during his time in the British Army in WW1 – of which many of his works are held in public collections.
Lawson was born in Kensington London into an artistic family, being Whistlers nephew by marriage. He was the son of Beatrix Whistler’s older sister Constance and the artist Cecil Gordon Lawson. He was active in Glasgow, Paris and London and lived in Paris for some time, returning to London in 1922.
He is also knownfor his publications of the Uniforms of the British Army published around 1940. He has also painted some poignant war scenes, one of which is in the London National Army Museum of ‘Soldiers Marching Past Ruined French Farm Buildings’. He also has works in the National Maritime Museum, Glasgow University and Stourhead House.
Lawson exhibited at the International Society of Artists, the Royal Academy and the Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts.
