From his watercolours in the 1950s, and his large abstracts in the early 1960s, he developed a unique style, combining the representational with the abstract.

Heywood lived at Painswick Stroud, he exhibited in London but latterly, disillusioned with the Gallery contracts and prices, converted part of his home in Painswick into a gallery space and had many annual exhibitions there. Well collected and sought after this piece is one of his best both in composition and size.

DETAIL: A wonderful large original oil painting by Oliver Heywood. The work depicts the harbour in Paros Greece with lots of activity of fisherman mending nets, motor boats in the harbour, fisherman unloading their catch and in the background donkeys moving goods. A bright and colour work which is typical Heywood composition. Heywood lived at Painswick Stroud, he exhibited in London but latterly, disillusioned with the Gallery contracts and prices, converted part of his home in Painswick into a gallery space and had many annual exhibitions there. Well collected and sought after this piece is one of his best both in composition and size.
