DETAIL: Christopher Tugwell was born in 1938 in Durban, South Africa and was largely self-taught with the exception of private lessons he received growing up. At the age of 20, the artist moved to Johannesburg to pursue his career as a painter, and soon after opened his own gallery in Pretoria. Tugwell lived and works in Pretoria, South Africa but exhibited across the globe. He sadly died in 2021 leaving a legacy of wonderful paintings and a credibility of the highest rank within South African art.
